Brivo, Inc. is a company providing cloud-basedaccess control and video surveillance products for physical security and internet of things applications.[1][2]
History[edit]
Brivo was founded in 1999.[3] In 2002, Brivo introduced cloud-based access control to the physical security market.[4][5][6] The physical access control system works with door card readers and similar devices, and locks or unlock things once an individual has been authenticated.[7]
Brivo released the ACS5000 access control system in 2005, with Ethernet and GSM cellular connectivity options.[5] In 2007, Brivo introduced its XMLapplication programming interface (API).[8] In 2017, Brivo introduced the availability of two new door access controllers, the ACS6000 and the ACS300, to complement its existing product lines, as well as integration with the Authentic Mercury open platform.[9]
Brivo introduced its IP door controller (IPDC) in 2011, an Ethernet access control panel in a compact form factor, with power over ethernet and FIPS 140-2 validated encryption. IPDC used standard network cabling to the door.[10]
Gartner named Brivo a “Cool Vendor in Identity and Access Management' for 2014.[11] In the same year, Brivo also released its Social Access Management API.[12]
As of 2015, Brivo stated its cloud-based access control system serviced more than ten million users and more 100,000 access points, such as doors and windows.[6][13]
At the 2018 ISC West Conference, Brivo ACS300 Wireless Access Controller won best product in the “Access Control Software & Controllers” category.[14]
In March 2020, Brivo announced it acquired Parakeet IoT company as part of its expansion into smart buildings.[15][16]
Private acquisition[edit]
In June 2015, Brivo was wholly acquired for $50 million by Dean Drako, Barracuda Networks founder and former CEO, and current President & CEO of Eagle Eye Networks. Drako will serve as Brivo’s Chairman.[17][18][19][20][21]
Drako said he saw the opportunity to accelerate the cloud technology shift underway in the physical security industry by combining Brivo’s cloud access control with cloud video surveillance from his company Eagle Eye Networks.[6] The two companies will continue to operate as separate entities.[1]

Brivo and Jolly Partner to Provide Integrated Access Control and Visitor Management Systems
Jolly integrates Lobbytrack with Brivo Online Access Control System
BETHESDA, MD and SAN CARLOS, CA – Dec. 21, 2010 – Jolly Technologies, the world's #1 identity software company, and Brivo Systems LLC, the leader in Web applications for access control and security systems, today announced that Brivo's ACS WebService® Software as a Service access control solution has been integrated with Jolly's Lobbytrack visitor management software.
The integration will allow customers to issue access control credentials directly from the Lobbytrack visitor management system and assign credentials to visitors, contractors, and employees. The implementation is seamless and configuration requires only the entry of the customer's Brivo account name and password into the Lobbytrack system.
The Lobbytrack visitor management system accommodates the fast registration of visitors through a driver’s license scan and a watch list check. A custom visitor badge is automatically printed, the visitor’s host is notified, and a log of each visit is recorded. Through this new integration, access cards may be distributed to specific visitors through a simple card number entry during the registration process. The visitor’s information and access group are automatically sent to the Brivo access system, so front-desk receptionists or security personnel aren’t required to log into the access control system to assign credentials.
“Both Jolly and Brivo take the extra steps to provide exceptional customer experience within our respective products. This is very apparent in this integrated solution,” said Kurt Bell, VP Sales & Marketing at Jolly. “The enrollment process requires only the entry of the access card number which can be automated with an electronic reader; those with card numbers are sent to Brivo’s system, those without are treated as regular visitors. It doesn’t seem possible to have a simpler solution. It has been a pleasure working with Brivo and we look forward to mutual success with the new integrated system.”
“Our cloud-based access control solution is a perfect fit for the Lobbytrack system, because customers need only provide their Brivo credentials and the integration works,” said Steve Van Till, Brivo President and CEO. “No on-site integration is needed, so the integrated functionality is available immediately, on demand.”
The integrated product will be distributed by Jolly and their network of dealers. Brivo ACS WebService is sold through Brivo's own Authorized Resellers.
